ORVAL VAN HOSEN Dies at 79 Years

Orval B. Van Hosen, a native of St. Charles and a former resident of Winterset, died Saturday, July 21, 1962, at a Des Moines hospital, after a several months' illness. He was 79 years of age.

Mr. Van Hosen was born in St. Charles, June 11, 1883, the son of Ernestus and Sarah Carter Van Hosen. Much of his early life was spent in Winterset, where he was associated with his father in the operation of a livery stable business, and the Arcade hotel. He moved to Des Moines in 1912, and became the first used car dealer in that city. At the time of his death he was associated with his son, Joe Van Hosen, in the operation of the Pioneer Auto company in Des Moines.

Mr. Van Hosen was married to Cora Clopton who preceded him in death in 1950.

He leaves three sons, Joe, Clayton and Hugh Van Hosen of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Robert W. Daniel of Des Moines and Mrs. Betty Gibson of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Ernest and Kenneth Van Hosen of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Vera Trawver of Des Moines, and Mrs. Loraine Bovee of Red Bluff, Calif. and a nephew, Paul Barrus of Commerce, Texas, who made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Van Hosen for many years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, in charge of the Rev. Leslie Chapman, pastor of Plymouth Congregational church in Des Moines. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
