DONALD V. MAPES

Donald V. Mapes was born the son of Leo Earl and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Veverka) Mapes at the old limestone house in rural Madison County, Iowa on January 13, 1920 and died due to complications of cancer at the Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa on January 30, 2005 at the age of 85 years and 17 days.

Donald received his education from the Earlham School, graduating in 1937. Donald started farming after high school in the Altoona and Bondurant area.

On August 30th 1942 Mary Ida Jurgensen and Donald were married. This union was blessed with 4 daughters: Cynthia Ann, Mary Jo, Jane Ellen and Judy Kay. Donald loved fishing, his animals, playing cards with family and friends, however his favorite activity was gardening and to mow the lawn, keeping the farm looking very well groomed.

Donald leaves the following family to celebrate his life: wife Mary Ida of Earlham; daughter Cynthia Ann Dailey of Altoona and her family: Weston, Mitchel, Chelsea and Shelby; daughter Mary Jo Marsh and husband Richard of Dexter and their family: Brandon and his wife Amanda, Gavin, M’Leigh and Janessa; daughter Jane Ellen Schirm and husband Robert of Dexter; daughter Judy Kay von (Von) Rentzell of Earlham and her family McKaila, McKenna and McKenzie; brother Franklyn Mapes and wife Lola of Urbandale; sister Myrna DeWall and husband Robert of Pocahontas; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
