Richard Wayne McDaniel was born the son of Delbert and Mary Lou Houdashelt McDaniel on September 13, 1949 in Colby, Kansas and died very suddenly in West Des Moines, Iowa on December 19, 2004 at the age of 55 years, 3 months and 6 days.
Rich graduated from Girard, Kansas High School. Rich was a Viet Nam Veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He worked for his father in the seeding and landscaping business until Delbert died in 1997. In 1999 Rich began working for the Des Moines Water Works as a heavy equipment operator. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and entered into many fishing tournaments, often winning in trophy positions. He also was a member of numerous wildlife organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and others too numerous to mention.
Rich leaves the following family to carry on his memory: fiancé Donna Pearson of Winterset; son Travis McDaniel and wife Mandy of Earlham; daughter Crystal McDaniel of Grimes; step-son Jon Thompson of Omaha; step-daughter Terra Brummett of Maryville, MO; mother Mary Lou McDaniel of Earlham; sister Linda Rhodes and husband Rex of Earlham; sister Barbara Brott and husband Dennis of Earlham; sister Brenda Coon of Earlham; brother Delbert “Beaver” McDaniel and wife Michele of Earlham; 1 granddaughter Cheyenne “Punky” McDaniel of Grimes.
Rich was preceded in death by his grandparents, father Delbert McDaniel and a brother Robert McDaniel.
