S. W. Stark

S. W. Stark was born at Iowa City, in 1863. His father, being at that time a soldier of the Civil War, and lost his life in that sanguinary conflict, leaving his mother, with two infant children. These two children were Thomas and Walter, who from youth to manhood faithfully aided their mother. The elder boy established a home of his own, in early manhood, but Walter took care of his mother until her death. In 1903 he was married to Mrs. Florence Sprinkle who died in 1924. To this couple one son, Robert, was born, who always shared with his father, the cares of a successful business, which with unusual energy and industry, he built up in Winterset, under many adverse circumstances.

Mr. Stark was again married to Mrs. Eva T. Chase July 1, 1930, who survives him. The deceased met with a serious accident early in life, from the effects of which he never recovered; this proved to be a great handicap all through life.

Nevertheless by this misfortune he bravely won his way in the race of life, and acquired a competence. He has been in feeble health for several years, and passed away Tuesday, January 20th.

The immediate relatives are the son, Robert, wife and son, Lucien, and brother, T. W. Stark of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota. The funeral services will be at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, January 22, at 2:00 o’clock.
