Charles Darwin Speer, son of Andrew and Nancy Speer was born May 12th, 1878, in Madison county near Earlham, and departed this life at his home in Earlham, October 31st, 1945 at the age of 67 years.

On October 20, 1926 he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Nitchals, and spent his entire life in this community, and by his honest and upright life gained the respect of those who knew him.

Early in life he united with the Friends church in Earlham where his membership remained until the time of his death.

Those beside the widow who remain to mourn his passing are, three brothers: James and Robert of Earlham, and Wm. of Newton, Iowa. Four sisters: Elizabeth Piatt, Blanch Marks, Mabel Bricker, all of Winterset, and Della Bloomquist of Stuart, also six step-sons and one step-daughter, beside other relatives and friends.

Chas. D. Speer Died Wednesday Morning

Charles D. Speer, 67, died at his home Wednesday morning after a short illness of pneumonia. His funeral will be held at the Friends church Saturday, November 3 at 2:00 o’clock p.m. Rev. Orin Hutchins will conduct the services and burial will be made in the Earlham cemetery. He is survived by his wife and several brothers and sisters.
