Thursday, March 8, 1945Ervin Boyle, eldest son of Newton S. and Aerna J. Boyle, was born near Linden, Iowa, August 19, 1875 and passed peacefully away at his home in Dexter, Wednesday morning, February 28, 1945 at the age of 69 years, six months, and nine days.
When a young man with his parents he moved on a farm near Dexter, where he received his education. He taught for a number of years in the Public Schhols of Madison county.
It was on January 29, 1902 he was united in marriage to Millie Carrington. To this union were born four children: Myrtle F. Thrailkill of Earlham; J. Maurice Boyle of Dexter; Bulah L. Scheibe of Chicago, and Carol G. Binns of DeSoto, Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. Boyle started their married life in a farm south of Dexter and have spent their entire lives in the same community. Just one year ago they retired from active farm duty and moved into their recently purchased home in Dexter.
Ervin Boyle was a good farmer. Frugal and industrious. Painstaking and conscientious. Honest in all his business enterprises. He was a good friend and neighbor and always eager and ready to carry his end of the load.
He was converted in early childhood and gave his heart and life to the Lord Jesus Christ. He united with the Methodist church and was a member of the Penn Center Methodist church for more than thirty years. He took a most active part in all the activities of his church. Served as Sunday School superintendent, taught various classes within the school. He was a member of the Official Board and served on several most important committees. He was the first Lay Leader elected after unification of the Church North and South. He served as Lay Delegate to the last session of the annual conference held in the city of Des Moines.
God called him home where he is waiting for his beloved wife, his devoted children and twelve grandchildren.
He also leaves three brothers and two sisters, Coradon of Earlham; Clayton of Denver, Colorado; Lela Carrington of Green Bay, Wisconsin; William of Sac City, Iowa; and Grace of Denver, Colorado, together with other relatives and a host of friends.
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at the last day; and not to me only but unto them also that love his appearing.
Funeral services were held at the Penn Center Methodist church Sunday afternoon, March 4.
Burial was in the Penn Center cemetery.
