BERTHA HOENESS DIES AT 88 YEARS

Long-Time Resident Here Had Been Making Home With Daughter

Mrs. Bertha Hoeness, a well-known resident of Winterset for many years, died Monday, April 11 in the hospital at Edgewood, Ia. She was 88 years of age.

Mrs. Hoeness was the widow of Samuel G. Hoeness, a prominant Jackson township farmer, whose death occurred in 1959. For the last five years she had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. T. W. Bassett, of Edgewood.

Mrs. Hoeness was the former Bertha McCorkle, daughter of Merrit and JoAnn Mekemson McCorkle. She was born in Madison county March 6, 1878.

She was married in 1902 to John McDonald. His death occurred in 1929. Her marriage to Mr. Hoeness occurred in 1936.

Most of Mrs. Hoeness' life was spent in Madison county. She was active in the United Presbyterian church in Winterset for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alice Reigle of Broomfield, Colo., and Mrs. Bassett of Edgewood; a son, Merritt McDonald of San Jose, Calif.; two step-sons, Lloyd and Harry Hoeness of Winterset; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter McCorkle of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Appleton Funeral home in Edgewood and will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset. The Rev. Walter A. Samp of Winterset will conduct the services here. Burial will be made in the Fairview cemetery.
