Richard Hildebrand, Atlantic

Richard Lee Hildebrand, 69, of Atlantic died Aug. 3, 2002 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Peace United Church of Christ in Walnut with Pastor Doris Ruben officiating.

Dick Hildebrand was born Jan. 10, 1933 in Winterset to Orie J. and Roselia (Whitlow) Hildebrand. He was a 1951 graduate of Winterset High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War. During this time, he married Beverly Smith. They lived in Des Moines until 1962, then moved to Walnut where they resided for 40 years. They had recently moved to Atlantic. Dick was employed as a welder for Mid-American Energy for 38 years. He also coached Little League baseball and was a scoutmaster. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers (in infancy).

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Atlantic; three sons, Rick Hildebrand and Larry Hildebrand, both of Troy, Mont., and Brian Hildebrand (wife Gail) of Loganville, Ga.; a daughter, Sharon Hildebrand (partner Liz Gross) of Philadelphia, Pa.; his father, Orie of Winterset; a brother, Phil Hildebrand (wife Norma) of Pleasant Hills; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
