Winterset Madisonian - Wednesday, May 22, 1946

Walter S. Harrell, a veteran of World War I, died Monday at his home in Old Peru. He was 58 years of age and had been in delicate health since suffering a heart attack five years ago.

Mr. Harrell was the son of Lewis and Elizabeth Harrell, and was born March 16, 1888, in Madison county. He was married Aug. 9, 1909, to Miss Madge Smith. They were the parents of one daughter.

He entered the service of his country during World War I, and served overseas until honorably discharged. He was a member of the St. Charles' Gripp-Williamson post, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was married a second time on March 9, 1946, to Miss Theo Campbell, who survives him. In addition to the wife, he leaves the daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Turner of Woodward; two grandchildren; and three brothers, Ben and Cliff Harrell of Winterset and Everett Harrell of Blakesburg.

Funeral services were held here Wednesday afternoon from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
