Wednesday, May 22, 1946A. J. McNichols, a former resident of the West Star community died May 11 at Independence where he had spent the last several months. He was 87 years of age.
Mr. McNichols was born in Belmont county, Ohio, on Feb. 5, 1859, the son of John and Mary McNichols. Two years later his parents moved to Monrovia county, Indiana, where he was reared. In the spring of 1881, the family came to Madison county.
He was married near Adel on Feb. 28, 1884, to Rachel M. Coffin. They were the parents of three sons and a daughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and one son, Ross McNichols. Surviving are two sons, Ray E. McNichols of Adel and Roy McNichols of Toledo; the daughter, Mrs. Mary Davis of Winthrop; 15 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Al McNichols of Pasadena, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Hadley of Stuart.
Funeral services were held May 13, at Adel, in charge of the Rev. A. V. Long, and burial was made in the cemetery there.
