Louis William Martens, son of Frederick William and Anna Russ Martens, was born in Warren County, Iowa, on March 17, 1894. He was called to his eternal home on Wednesday, July 26th at the age of 73 years, 4 months, and 9 days. He fell asleep quietly in his home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Martens was baptized in Lutheran Church at Churchville, Iowa, where he was also confirmed on January 2, 1911.

In 1915 he moved with his family from Warren County to Madison County.

On February 19, 1919, he was united in marriage with Anna Stasia Boos, daughter of Nicholas and Anna Boos. This union was blessed with three sons: Eugene William of Dexter, Iowa, Kenneth Nicholas of Aurora, Colorado and Gordon Louis of Booneville, Iowa.

During the first 6 years of his married life he lived south of DeSoto, Iowa. Then the family moved to a farm near Earlham where they resided for 15 years. In 1940 they moved to their present home near Van Meter.

Mr. Martens' occupation during his entire life was farming.

He was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Van Meter, and also a member of the Trinity Men's Club and Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Club. He had served his congregation on the Board of Trustees and was also at one time a member of the Van Meter school board.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, John, who died as a youth.

He is survived by his wife and three sons; six brothers, Fred, William, Clarence, Grant, Arthur and Irvin; one sister, Mrs. Esther Storck; six grandchildren; other relatives and numerous friends.
