Obituary

Roy Price was born near Leighton in Mahaska county, Iowa on May 3, 1886 and passed away at the Dexter hospital on November 16, 1967 at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 13 days.

He was the second of three sons born to James P. and Iowa B. Price. He came to Madison County with his family at the age of 11 and has lived in the Earlham area continuously since 1897.

He entered school in Mahaska County, then completed his formal education in the rural schools of Madison Co. However, the greater portion of his education was gained from observation and communication with people and their environment. He loved the natural beauty of this little portion of Iowa and was probably one of only a few to know so intimately each hill, tree and river.

He operated a farm in his early life; then became a butcher for the Earlham Locker and completed his active working life as a clerk at McLennan's Hardware Store.

He was married to Pearl Wynkoop March 25, 1908. They became the parents of seven children: four of whom survive their father. In his home he was the head of the house in the old tradition. He projected his role so that each child was guilded definitely but gently according to their temperament. Gloom didn't last long in this home. Roy could always see the humorous aspects of any situation. Living each day to its fullest exemplified his philosophy of life.

He is survived by his widow; two sons, Robert of Des Moines, and Herbert of Carlisle; two daughters, Mildred Robertson of Des Moines and Eileen Ramsey of Hollydale, California; one brother, Charles, of Marshalltown; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

(From Unknown source, burial was at Earlham cemetery)
