Thursday, April 11, 1946Nick Dimel Died At Quarry Monday
Nick Dimel, who has operated a shovel at the Marquette quarry since December 8, 1916, was found dead on his machine Monday afternoon by a fellow workman, W. W. Dunmire.
According to R. A. Bonham, superintendent of the quarry, he saw Mr. Dimel at 2:30 that afternoon and visited with him for a few minutes. He was scooping dirt out of a ditch and was assisted part of the time by Dunmire who was operating the bulldozer.
About 3:30 o’clock Dunmire noticed the shovel at the top of the boom and thinking that Dimel was having trouble went to see what was the matter. When he climbed into the cab he found Mr. Dimel dead.
The coroner was called and reported that the death was from natural causes and no inquest was held. He thought that the death occurred about 3:00 o’clock.
Mr. Dimel had been suffering from heart trouble since last summer, but he had been feeling better and had been working for the past several months. His sudden death was a shock to his many friends.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church. Rev. S. R. Overholser and Rev. Arthur Henry conducted the services. He leaves his wife and four children, Woodrow, Marjorie, Phyllis and Barbara. Barbara is a sophomore in the high school here and the other three live and are employed in California. They arrived Thursday to attend their father’s funeral. Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery. The obituary will be printed next week.
