James Herrick, Winterset

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 23, at Collins Funeral Home for James Emil Herrick of Winterset, who died Jan. 20 at Des Moines General Hospital. He was 77 years old.

Born in Adair County on Oct. 3, 1904, he was the son of Charles and Mary Sickles Herrick.

On Oct. 9, 1926, he married Lela Harrison in Creston, Ia. Six children were born to the marriage.

Mr. Herrick was a farmer most of his life, retiring in 1966.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Elmer and Mayburn; four sisters, Vennie Johnston, Vira Perry, Elma Reed and Neva Herrick; and a granddaughter, Brenda Herrick.

Survivors include his wife, Lela; 4 sons, Charles of Winterset, Dean of Hamilton, Ill., Paul of DeSoto and David of Independence; 2 daughters, Neva Sirdoreus of Norwalk and Charlotte Drake of Creston; a brother, Earl of Shenandoah; a sister, Zola Hewitt of Villisca; 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
