John William Lents, Peru

Services for John William Lents, 68 of Peru who died Sept. 23 at Madison County Memorial Hospital were held Monday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Peru, the Rev. James Clinton of New Virginia officiating. Burial was at the Peru Cemetery.

Mr. Lents was born April 20, 1914 in Adair County, the son of George and Maude Davis Lents. He attended Adair County schools and married Murriel Parker Nov. 28, 1938 at Atlantic. The couple had five children.

Most of his life he worked as a farmer, construction worker and truck driver and was a member of IOOF Lodge and the United Methodist Church in Peru.

Survivors are his wife; sons, William of East Peoria, Ill., Thomas of Crystal Lake, Ill., Larry of O’Fallon, Ill., and Roger of Fresno, Calif.; a daughter, Carole Followwill of Independence, Mo; brothers, Melvin of Bridgewater, Ray of Fontanelle and Robert of Mt Home, Ark.; a sister, Helen Wyllie of Bridgewater; and 11 grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Margaret; brothers, Kenneth and Earl; and two grandchildren.
