Harold Batten, Carlisle

Services for Harold “Hal” Batten, 60, Carlisle, who died of a heart ailment Friday, Sept. 17, were held Sunday, Sept. 19 at the Richardson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Burial was at the Carlisle Cemetery.

Born in Lucas County, Mr. Batten lived in Carlisle 20 years and was a vice president and management consultant for Batten, Batten, Hudson and Swab in Des Moines.

He was a former president of the Iowa Development Foundation, a member of Carlisle United Methodist Church, Marble Masonic Lodge, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and Scottish Rite. He also served on the Carlisle school board. He and his wife lived in Winterset at one time.

Survivors include his wife, Vesta Sawhill Batten, who grew up in Madison County; sons, Bill and Bob of Carlisle, Don of Minneapolis, Minn., and Joe of Iowa City; a brother, Joe of Des Moines; sisters, Elizabeth Rue of Tucson, Ariz., and Marilyn Ryan of Phoenix, Ariz., and five grandchildren.

The family suggested memorial contributions be made to the Carlisle United Methodist Church.
