HELEN TUCKER WALTER, Missouri

Helen Irene Tucker Walter, 88, died April 10, 1999, at Point Lookout Nursing Home in Hollister, Mo.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 14) at Renner Cemetery near Boxholm, Iowa, with the Rev. Charles Henry officiating.

Helen Walter was born March 17, 1911, near Macksburg to James Ira and Mattie (Cochran) Tucker. She was a graduate of Macksburg High School and Simpson College at Indianola. She taught in a rural school south of Lorimor one year and two years at Zion Consolidated School and in Boxholm Consolidated School for five years until her marriage to Clinton Walter on June 12, 1938. They resided on a farm near Boxholm. In 1946, they moved to Boulder, Colo. In 1951, Helen began teaching kindergarten in Foothills School. She held this position until she retired in 1976. She also was a member of the United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teacher's organization.

She was preceded in death by two children, Sandra Jean and Jerry Jay, and one brother.

Sur is survived by her husband; four sisters, Ruth Tucker of Winterset, Eleanor Wickstrand of Portland, Ore., Kathryn Kyner (husband Max) of Boulder, Colo., and Jean Greenwood (husband Howard) of Clive; three brothers, Blaine Tucker (wife Darlene) of Branson, Mo., Keith Tucker of Winterset and Max Tucker (wife Mary Jo) of Macksburg; and many nieces and nephews.
