Mary Ida Mapes, 81, of Earlham died July 1, 2006, in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 7, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Robert Waldron officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.

Ida Mapes was born Dec. 6, 1924, in Brook Park, Minn., to Gerhart Henry Hans and Anna (Bundtzen) Jurgensen and received her education from DeSoto High School. On Aug. 30, 1942, she married Donald V. Mapes.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Dan Jurgensen; a half brother, Henry Petersen; and a sister, Joan Brooker.

She is survived by four daughters, Cynthia A. Dailey of Altoona, Mary Jo Marsh and Jane Schirm, both of Dexter, and Judy Mapes of Earlham; four sisters, Irene Houghtaling of Indianola, Louise Wells of La Grande, Ore., Lucy Clark of Altoona, and Patsy Radtke of Randolph,, Wis.; three brothers, Chuck Jurgensen of Earlham, Bill Jurgensen of Winterset and Robert Jurgensen of La Grande, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were held for Mary Ida Mapes on Friday, July 7, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham, Iowa. Robert Waldron officiated.

Danny Gruber had a guitar solo, “Amazing Grace”. Other special music was “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”.

Pallbearers were Brandon Marsh, Weston Dailey, Mitchel Dailey, Dr. Gary Mapes, and Craig Mapes. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Schirm, Rick Marsh, and Grant Marsh (Great-grandson).

Mary Ida Jurgensen was born the oldest daughter of Gerhart Henry Hans and Anna Bundtzen Jurgensen at Brook Park, MN on December 6, 1924 and passed away July 1, 2006 at the age of 81.

Ida received her education at DeSoto High School and was a basketball star, and was noted for her long shot. On August 30, 1942 Donald V. Mapes and Mary Ida Jurgensen were united in marriage. They had four daughters: Cynthia Ann, Mary Jo, Jane Ellen and Judy Kay.

Ida loved playing cards, gardening, sewing and baking for her family. Her love was her family and friends.

Ida is survived by her daughter Cynthia A. Dailey of Altoona and her children, Weston, Mitchel, Chelsea and Shelby; daughter Mary Jo Marsh and husband Richard of Dexter and their children Brandon and wife Amanda and great-grandson Grant; Gavin, M’Leigh and Janessa; daughter Jane Schirm and husband Robert of Dexter; daughter Judy Mapes of Earlham and her children McKaila, McKenna and McKenzie; sister Irene Houghtaling of Indianola; sister Louise Wells and husband Ray of La Brande, OR; sister Lucy Clark and husband Herman of Altoona; sister Patsy Radtke and husband Dennis of Randolph, WI; brother Chuck Jurgensen of Earlham; brother Bill Jurgensen and wife Margaret of Winterset; brother Robert Jurgensen and wife Gracie of La Grande, OR.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband Donald, brother Dan Jurgensen, half brother Henry Petersen, sister Joan Brooker and her parents Anna and “Ole” Jurgensen.

Interment was held in the Earlham Cemetery in Earlham, Iowa. Kuhn Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
