Winterset Madisonian - December 24, 1947

Mrs. Lloyd Wright, a well-known resident of this community for many years, died at a hospital in Ames last Saturday, Dec. 20, after an extended period of failing health. She was 61 years of age.

Mrs. Wright was the former Virgie Meacham, youngest of 13 children born to Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Meacham of Jackson township, near Pitzer. She was born there April 12, 1886, and lived there with her parents until 1900, when they moved into Winterset. The family remained in Winterset for eight years, before moving back to the Pitzer community.

She was married Dec. 30, 1908 to Lloyd E. Wright. They engaged in farming here until 1925, when they moved into Winterset. Since 1940, their home had been at Ames.

Mr. and Mrs. Wright were the parents of one son, Hugh Wright, who gave his life for his country during the recent war while serving with the U. S. Naval Air Corps in the Pacific. Mrs. Wright's death occurred on the third anniversary of her son's death in action.

Surviving are her husband: a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Irene Wright; a sister, Mrs. Floy Darnall of Portland, Ore.; and a brother, Frank Meacham of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Funeral services were held here Tuesday from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. Mr. Grisby of Inwood, assisted by the local pastor, the Rev. G. L. Hufstader. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
