Floyd "Bud" Heckathorn, 81, of Winterset died of heart failure Jan. 12, 2003 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 15) at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Friends may call from 2-3:30 p.m. prior to the funeral services. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date.

Bud Heckathorn was born April 30, 1921 in Elkalaka, Mont., to Glen and Bessie (Kimball) Heckathorn. On Oct. 6, 1946, he married Dorothy Rose in Polson, Mont. A Winterset resident since 1988 he had previously resided in Washington State. Bud had worked for the Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, Wash., as a steam plant operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Mildred, Ida Fae, Helen, Gladys, Edna, Louise and Wayne.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Winterset; two daughters, Wanda Neuenkirk of Winterset and Gail Mattson of Walla Walla, Wash.; two sons, Floyd Leo Heckathorn of Waldorf, Md., and Ron Heckathorn of Duluth, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
