Earlham, Iowa
Thursday, February 28, 1946

Following an illness of five weeks, Maggie McQuie entered into the rest that remaineth for God's Chosen ones, passing away on Friday Morning, February 22 at the age of 80 years, two months and 20 days having entered this life December 2, 1865 in Knox county, Illinois.

The family moved from there to Penn township, Madison county in 1871 to the present homestead which has been the McQuie home noted for its hospitality for 75 years.

In the public schools she received her education and training that fitted her for life and its usefulness.

Characteristics of "Aunt Maggie" were--concern for the welfare of others, generosity, kindliness, and a warm hospitality. No one ever entered her home even briefly but felt assured of a cordial welcome.

After the passing of her sister Jennie four years ago, her nephew Bruce Moore, his wife and family have shared her home, as she was the last member of the McQuie household. Her parents having preceded her in death many years and in more recent years by the death of her brothers and sisters: Isabell Moore in 1927; Peter in 1929; Alexander in 1931; William in 1936; Mary Junkin in 1939; and Jennie in 1942.

She leaves in sorrow six nieces and five nephews who will sadly miss this quiet, kindly person--other more distant relatives and many, many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Early Chapel Church of Christ by the Rev. Clayton P. Shepard, her former pastor; in charge of the Welch Funeral Service. Interment at the Penn Center cemetery.
