RACHEL WASSON Dies at 63 Years

Mrs. Clyde M. Wasson, a long time resident of Madison and Adair counties, died last Wednesday, March 23, 1966, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 63 years of age.

Mrs. Wasson was the former Rachel Thrailkill, daughter of John and Caroline Thrailkill. She was born April 16, 1902, on a farm south of Dexter. Her early life was spent on a farm near Earlham.

She graduated from Dexter High school with the class of 1921, then taught school in Madison and Adair counties. She was married to Clyde M. Wasson on June 16, 1926.

She was baptized in the Dexter Presbyterian church, but later transferred her membership to the Mt. Vernon Methodist church in which she served actively until a few months before her death. She also was active in Garden club and Farm Bureau work, and shared a mutual interest with her husband in shorthorn cattle.

Mr. Wasson died in July 1963. She entered a Winterset nursing home in November 1965, and was taken to Memorial hospital March 23.

Surviving are five brothers and five sisters, Cheser Thrailkill and Mrs. Alice Bradshaw of Dexter, Mrs. Tillie Heifner of Greenfield, Charley Thrailkill of Earlham, Maurice Thrailkill of Macksburg, Mrs. Amy Pitcock and Mrs. Nettie Howell of Winterset, and Mrs. Cora Hunter and Wayne and Ray Thrailkill of Orlando, Fla.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Stuart Methodist church, with the Rev. Lawrence Garrett officiating. Burial was made in South Oak Grove cemetery at Stuart.

Rachel Thrailkill Wasson, daughter of John Chester and Caroline Amanda Thrailkill, was born on a farm south of Dexter, Iowa, April 16, 1902. She moved with her parents to a farm near Earlham and grew to womanhood in that vicinity.

She graduated from Dexter High School in 1921, and then taught schools in both Madison and Adair counties. She was baptized and joined the Presbyterian Church in Dexter, and later transferred her membership to the Mt. Vernon Methodist Church, where she served actively until a few months before her death.

Rachel was united in marriage to Clyde M. Wasson, June 16, 1926. They started housekeeping in Adair County. She took an active part in church work, Garden Club, Farm Bureau, and various other community activities. She and her husband had a mutual interest in showing purebred Shorthorn Cattle. Rachel loved people and had many friends.

Her husband preceded her in death in July of 1964, after a lingering illness. Also preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers and one sister. At the time of her husband’s death, Rachel’s health was failing. However, at all times, she maintained confident composure, never dwelling on her own illness.

She entered Madison Manor at Winterset in November, 1965, and later transferred to the Memorial hospital at Winterset where she passed away March 23, 1966 at the age of 63 years, 11 months and seven days.

She leaves to mourn her passing five brothers and five sisters: Chester Thrailkill and Alice Bradshaw of Dexter; Tillie Heifner of Greenfield; Charley Thrailkill of Earlham; Maurice Thrailkill of Macksburg; Amy Pitcock and Nettie Howell of Winterset; Cora Hunter, Wayne and Ray Thrailkill all of Orlando, Florida. Also many nieces and nephews and other relatives and many, many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Stuart Methodist church with Rev. Laurence Garrett officiating. Music was presented by Mrs. Richard M. Wood, organist. Esther Pitcock, Ardith Trailkill, Viola Faust, Pat Howell, Velma Faust and Carolyn Thrailkill assisted with the flowers. Casketbearers were Leland Pitcock, Wayne Thrailkill, Francis Faust, Robert Howell, James Faust and Ramon Thrailkill. Interment was in South Oak Grove cemetery at Stuart.
