Zayda L. Harrison, Marshalltown

Services for Zayda Lavonne Harrison, 74, Marshalltown, who died Feb. 26 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, were held Monday, Feb. 29, at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Doris Klinton of the First Christian Church in Winterset officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.

Born Oct. 24, 1913 near Shannon City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Robert and Stella Wilson Stradley. She was housekeeper at the Iowa Veterans Home and had lived in Marshalltown since 1954. She had lived in Winterset from 1937 to 1954.

She was married to George Harrison on Feb. 20, 1937 at Princeton, Mo.

Survivors include a son, Richard of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Irma and Vonda Long, both of Creston; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, and two brothers.

Zayda Harrison Dies

Zayda Harrison of Marshalltown passed away Friday, February 26, 1988, at the Marshalltown Hospital where she had been a patient since February 18th. The death was the result of two massive heart attacks.

She was born October 24, 1913, near Shannon City, the daughter of Robert and Stella (Wilson) Stradley in their farm home. She was graduated from Arispe High School in 1930, and attended the Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri. On June 1, 1931, she married Carroll Cain in Grant City, Missouri. Two children were born to this union, Richard Lewis and Joan Lucille. They were residents of Winterset. Carroll and Zayda were divorced in 1934.

Zayda married George Harrison February 20, 1937 in Princeton, Missouri. They resided in Winterset until about 1953 when they moved to Marshalltown. In August 1937, Joan died and is buried in the Winterset Cemetery. George adopted Richard and raise him as his son.

Zayda was a homemaker who loved flowers and outdoor activities. She and George were fishing enthusiasts. She was employed for many years as a housekeeper in The Veteran's Home and for private individuals.

Mrs. Harrison had been in poor health for some time and entered the Marshall County Care Center on February 8, 1979 where she has since made her home.

She was preceded in death by her daughter; her husband in 1965; her parents, and two brothers, Lloyd and Marvin.

She is survived by her son, Richard and wife Carolyn Harrison, of Winter Park, Florida; four grandsons, Richard, Michael, Charles and Mark.
