Pearl P. Byers, daughter of John and Minnie Byers, was born near Elkhart, Iowa, February 27, 1903 and departed this life Novemer 17, 1944, at the age of 41 years, eight months and 20 days.

On April 11, 1936 she was united in marriage to Chas. Mleynek of Earlham. For the past few years they have made their home on the Mleynek farm in the Worthington community. Pearl has operated a Beauty Shop in Earlham for a number of years and has driven to and from her work since moving to the farm.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her beloved husband, two daughters and one son by a former marriage, Mrs. Hazel Stanley, Mrs. Darlene Gabby, and Leroy Enfield. One grandson, Dean Stanley, all of Earlham. Seven brothers, Chas. of Mitchellville; Orville of Bondurant; Clifford of Nevada; Leslie of Mitchellville; John of Mingo; Loren of Los Angeles; and Wilbur in the U.S.N. somewhere in the South Pacific. Two sisters, Violet Byers of Maxwell, and Mrs. Mabel DeHoot of Ames. Her parents and one sister, Mrs. Iva Hart have preceded her in death. There are many other relatives and innumberable friends that will greatly miss her.

Pearl was a kind and loving wife and mother, always planning and working for the good and happiness of her family. A friend ready to do what she could for anyone in need. Her unselfish spirit and pleasant personality will be a living memorial in the hearts and minds of her loved ones and friends.

Early in life she united with the United Brethren Evangelical church of Loring, Iowa, later removing her membership to the Worthington Methodist church where she has enjoyed Christian Fellowship and working with her neighbors and friends.

Many of her friendships have been made through her associations in the Earlham Rebekah Lodge of which whe was an active member.

Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Welch Funeral Home with services held from the Methodist church in Earlham conducted by Rev. Reed Kessler, Rev. Ivan Mills, and Rev. Arthur Henry. The Rebekah service was conducted by the local lodge. Four beautiful hymns were used. Two were sung by Mrs. Leo Conrad and Mrs. Walter Mapes. The other two were sung by Mrs. A. W. Bates and Mrs. John N. Conrad as a part of the Rebekah service. Mrs. Mervyn McLennan accompanied at the piano.

Interment was made in the Earlham cemetery.
