WILLIAM O. DOUGLAS OF DEXTER IS DEAD

William O. Douglas, a well known farmer in Lee township for many years, died Monday of last week at his home in Dexter where he had lived the last 25 years.

Mr. Douglas' death was caused by a stroke, and it occurred just 26 days after the death of his wife. He was 76 years of age.

Mr. Douglas was born in Madison county, near Truro, on June 13, 1870, the son of James M. and Priscilla Holmes Douglas. His early life was spent near Truro.

He was married March 4, 1896, to Mary C. Stutzman of Atlantic. They were the parents of seven children, two of whom died in infancy. The wife and mother died in 1922.

His second marriage occurred Nov. 10, 1925, to Sarah E. Davis. Her death occurred at Dexter on July 31.

He is survived by five children, Lawrence Douglas of Winterset, Orval Douglas of Anaconda, Mont., Delbert Douglas of Des Moines, Mrs. Carrie Lewellen of Carson, and Mrs. Golda McKibben of Pocahontas; and seventeen grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Thursday from the Welch funeral home in Dexter in charge of the Rev. E. A. Elliott of Des Moines. Burial was made in the Jordan cemetery at West Des Moines.

William Owen Douglas, son of James and Prisella Holmes Douglas, was born in Madison County, Iowa, on June 13, 1870, and passed away at his home in Dexter August 26, 1946 at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 12 days.

On March 4, 1896 he was united in marriage to Mary C. Stutzman at Atlantic, Iowa, and to this union were born seven children, two of them died in infancy. The mother passed away in 1922, later he was united in marriage to Sarah E. Davis, on November 10, 1925, who passed away July 31, 1946, just 26 days before his death.

He made his confession to Christ in 1930.

He leaves five children, Laurence of Winterset, Orval of Anaconda, Montana, Delbert of Des Moines, Carrie Lewellen of Carson, Iowa, and Golda McKibben of Pocahontas; seventeen grandchildren, eight nephews and nieces, and a host of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held at the Welch Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, August 29, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by the Rev. E. A. Elliott of Des Moines. Burial was at the Jordan Cemetery at West Des Moines.
