BLANCE C. HANRAHAN

Blanche C. Hanrahan, 89, died peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Des Moines. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Cumming, Iowa.

Blanche was born on August 27, 1916, in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Joseph and Julia Joynt. Upon High School graduation, she went to Cosmetology School in Des Moines, Iowa, where she practiced her profession for many years. She married Louis Hanrahan, who preceded her in death in 1983.

Blanche was an avid golfer and bowler and loved spending time doing both. She was an active member of St. Theresa’s Parish, where she served on many committees.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Jerome (Angela) Hanrahan of Altoona; three sisters, Ruth Kehr and Venita Willits both of Emmetsburg, IA and Evelyn Hiebeler of Sun Lakes, AZ; as well as several nieces and nephew. In addition to her husband, Blanche was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. on Monday, February 27, at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel located at 6337 Hickman Road in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. and a Vigil service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Theresa’s Catholic Church or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the entire staff at Mercy Hospice for their excellent care.
