VELMA HENDRICKS, Winterset

Velma L. Hendricks, 87, of Winterset died June 30, 2006, at Winterset Care Center South.

A memorial service was held Monday, July 3, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Velma Hendricks was born April 15, 1919, in Wayne, Neb. to William Earnest and Daisy May (Young) Hern. On Nov. 17, 1945, she married Clyde Willis Hendricks Sr. Velma was the Winterset city clerk for 32 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the First Christian Church and VFW Auxiliary. She also was a life member of the Winterset Library and Madison County Historical Society, as well as the Winterset Art Center and Current Topic Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Betty Dorrell; and three brothers, William Hern, Ralph Hern and Jack Hern.

She is survived by two sons, Clyde Hendricks Jr. of Marion and Leon Hendricks of Winterset; a brother, Charles Hern of Indianola; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Winterset First Christian Church or Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund.

Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
