Ella, daughter of Bush and Mary Dunbar Thompson, was born in Benton County, Iowa, on December 8, 1881.
They lived on a farm near Vinton where she attended school. In the spring of 1907 the family moved to Madison county near Winterset. That fall she was united in marriage to Thomas A. Barr. To them was born one son, Frederick Jay. After their marriage they moved to Vinton and later lived for a few years in Anamosa. They returned to Winterset 19 years ago. They afterwards were for a short time in California and lived for a few months in Grand Island, Nebraska, before returning to Winterset.
She has been for many years an active member of the Eastern Star and of the Pythian Sisters, holding a number of offices in each of these lodges. In later years she has been active in the Child Welfare Club and was a past president of that organization.
She became a member of the United Brethren church when living in Vinton and later transferred her membership to the Winterset M. E. church.
Above all else in her life has been her intense mother love.
After Mr. Barr’s death on August 23rd of last year she never regained her strength and after months of intense suffering passed away on August 20th, 1931, at the age of 49 years.
She leaves beside her son, her father, Bush Thompson of Pasadena, California, two brothers, Ralph and Jay of Winterset, and one sister, Marjorie Cowan of Pasadena, California.
The Reverend David Shenton of Clarinda, her former pastor, conducted the services assisted by the Reverend A. P. Keast, her present pastor at Tidrick’s funeral home Saturday afternoon, August 22nd and the interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
