Winterset Business Man Was Buried in Local Cemetery

Funeral services for Ira D. Hammond, well known Winterset businessman and builder, who died in a Des Moines hospital Tuesday night of last week, were held last Friday from the Anderson Home for Funerals here. The Rev. W. A. Samp, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church, was in charge of the services and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Hammond was the son of Daniel and Mary Hammond, and was born in Marion county on Sept. 11, 1876. He was married to Effie Hayes on May 23, 1898. They were the parents of two children.

He came to Winterset in 1907 and engaged in the lumber business here until 1940. Since that time he had worked as a carpenter.

Mr. Hammond was a member of the Methodist church, the Masonic lodge and the Knights of Pythias.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Cecil Hammond of Winterset; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Fisher of Des Moines; and two grandchildren.
