EFFIE HAMMOND DIES AT 91 YEARS

Had Lived at Winterset for 57 Years; Services Held Monday

Mrs. Ira Hammond, a well-known Winterset resident for 57 years, died Friday, Oct. 23, at her home here. She was 91 years of age and had been in failing health for an extended period.

Mrs. Hammond was a native of Marion county, where she was born April 18, 1873. She was the former Effie Mary Hays, daughter of James and Alma Monahan Hays. She was married May 22, 1898, in Rooks county, Kansas, to Ira D. Hammond. They came to Winterset and Mr. Hammond was engaged in the lumber business here for many years. He preceded her in death.

She leaves a son, Cecil Hammond of Winterset; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Fisher of Des Moines; two grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

She was a member of the First Methodist church of Winterset. She was also affiliated with the Woman's Relief Corps and Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Wilson Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
