Wayne Harris Hammans, 64, of Philomont, Va., died April 16, 1997 at the Washington Hospital Center. Funeral services were at Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville with Chaplain Parker Thompson officiating. Burial was at Ebenezer Cemetery in Round Hill, Va.
He was born Dec. 5, 1932 in Avoca. He was a graduate of Winterset High School. He served in the United States Air Force for four years and then attended East Coast Aero Tech in Bedford, Mass. He worked as a mechanic for Pan American Airways before retiring after 30 years. At the time of his death, he was custom farming in the Philomont area.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W. Howard and Mamie Hammans and Mrs. Anna Dillon.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Dale T. Hammans of Manassas, Vo., Robert W. Hammans of Purcellville, Va., and Ronald L. Hammans of Lusby, Md.; one daughter, Linda J. McMurrer of Leesburg, Va.; one brother, Ronald Brixen of Livermore, Calif.; four sisters, Belvah Golding of Whittier, Calif., Marjorie Miller of Houma, La., Elloise Shiveley of Blue Springs, Mo., and Norma Jean Smith of San Diego, Calif.; his former wife, Marjorie J. Hammans of Purcellville, Va.; and five grandchildren.
