THOMAS J. GRIMES SERVICE SATURDAY

Accident Victim Was Life Time Resident of This County

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Kale Funeral home in Truro for Thomas J. Grimes, who was killed last Wednesday, Nov. 8, in a farm machine accident at the home of his brother, Henry Grimes, northeast of Truro. The Rev. Robert Webber conducted the services. Burial was made in Ebenezer cemetery.

Mr. Grimes was 70 years of age at his death. He was a life-long resident of the county, and his life was spent in farming. In recent years he had been retired, and was living in Truro.

He was a son of George W, and Penelope Imes Grimes, and was born in Ohio township on Feb. 22, 1891.

Mr. Grimes was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Masonic lodge at Peru.

He was married at Winterset on July 25, 1918, to Vannatt R. Gordon, who survives him. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Darlene Bartholomew of Lincoln, Nebr., and Mrs. Juanita Gentry of Fremont, Nebr.; six grandchildren; three brothers, Henry, Charlie and Arthur Grimes of Peru; and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Lytton of Truro and Mrs. Grace Haywood of Fremont, Nebr.

POWER TAKE-OFF KILLS THOMAS GRIMES

Thomas J. Grimes of Truro was killed this Wednesday morning when caught in the power take-off of a corn elevator he was helping to operate at the farm of his brother, Henry Grimes northwest of Truro.

Mr. Grimes was 70 years of age, and was a life-long resident of Madison county. He had been retired in recent years and was living in Truro.

He was working with his brother, Henry Grimes, when the accident occurred. they were loading info (sic) a crib.

Dr. Paul Eggleston, Madison county coroner, was called to the scene. He said Mr. Grimes was killed instantly when caught in the machinery.

The body is at the Kale Funeral home in Truro.
