Services for Dr. Lyle A. Weed, 79, Rochester, Minn., a Mayo Clinic staff member for 22 years and a native of Winterset, who died Jan. 25, 1983, at Rochester, were held Jan. 30 at Christ United Methodist Church there. The body was donated to the Mayo Foundation for medical research.
He was born in Winterset Jan. 15, 1904 and received his B.A. in 1927 from Simpson College and his M.S. from Iowa State in bacteriology. He was a bacteriologist for the Chicago Sanitary District in 1928 and 1929, and received his Ph.D. in bacteriology from Western Reserve University in 1932. He held a number of other positions until joining Mayo in 1945.
He married Garnet Luella Holman of Mt. Ayr, on Aug. 29, 1928 in Chicago. She survives as does a daughter, Mrs. Flora Ingalls of Rochester; two sons, Karl of Dallas and David of Phillips, Maine; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a brother, Lonnie of Orient, Iowa. He was preceded in death by a sister.
Dr. Weed was the son of the late Rev. A. R. Weed who served several churches in Madison county as well as being a State Representative.
