Winterset Madisonian - March 7, 1956
Mrs. Lulu Lewis of Winterset died at Memorial hospital this Wednesday, March 7, after a brief illness. She had been ill with influenza since Saturday, and Wednesday morning was found to be suffering from a heart attack. She was rushed to Memorial hospital, but died there that morning.
Mrs. Lewis was 64 years of age. She had been a resident of Winterset for six years. Much of her life was spent in Bedford, but she left there following the death of her husband, 11 years ago.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Smith of Winterset and Mrs. Verna Cox of Bedford; a son Duane Lewis of Colorado; three sisters, Mrs. Alta Flood and Mrs. Eva Glasscock of Winterset and Mrs. Ina Stearnes of Davenport; and two brothers, Raymond McGinnis of Creston and Floyd McGinnis of Casey.
Funeral arrangements had not been made as the Madisonian went to press.

LEWIS SERVICES HELD LAST FRIDAY
Funeral services were held last Friday from the Winterset Christian church for Mrs. Lula E. Lewis, whose death had occurred March 7 at Memorial hospital here.
The Rev. Warren Hile, pastor of the Winterset Christian Church, conducted the services. Burial was made in the Greenfield cemetery.
Mrs. Lewis was 64 years of age at her death. She was the former Lula McGinnis, daughter of John and Cora McGinnis, and was born in Jefferson township, Adair county, on June 19, 1891. A great part of her life was spent on farms in that vicinity.
She was married Sept. 7, 1910 to Fred Lewis. They spent 18 years in Bedford. After that, she lived a short time in Idaho Springs, Colorado, then moved to Winterset, where she spent the remainder of her life. Her husband preceded her in death in 1945.
She was a member of the Christian church.
Surviving are three children, Duane Lewis of Empire, Colo., Mrs. Verna Cox of Bedford, and Mrs. Mildred Smith of Winterset; three grandchildren, Barbara and Janet Smith and Duane Lewis, Jr.; three sisters, Mrs. Eva Glasscock and Mrs. Alda Flood of Winterset and Mrs. Ina Stearns of Davenport; and two brothers, Raymond McGinnis of Creston and Floyd McGinnis of Casey.
