MARION WESTPHAL Dies at 64

Marion Nelson Westphal died Jan. 29, 1981 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 64.

Mr. Westphal was born Nov. 21, 1916 at home in Madison County. He was the son of Herman and Ella Adkins Westphal.

In 1938 he married Mary Swallow, and five children were born of the union.

Mr. Westphal spent his entire life in the Van Meter area. He belonged to the Isaac Walton League, Van Meter Community Club and had a life-time membership in the American Trap Association.
He served on the Van Meter Community School Board for many years and was awarded the Honorary Chapter Farmer Award from the FFA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Mary: four daughters, Mrs. Jack (Gretchen) Chapman of Adel, Mrs. Lawrence (Joyce) Dittmer of Adel, Jean Westphal of Clive, Susan Westphal of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Steven Westphal of Van Meter; a brother, John Westphal of Earlham; seven grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
