Forest Grasty, Red Oak

A funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 9, at Sellergren-Lindell Funeral Home in Red Oak for Forest Grasty, a former Madison county resident who died at Mongomery County Memorial Hospital on Aug. 4. He was 86 years old.

Born in Madison County on Dec. 9, 1895, he was the son of William and Judy Grasty. He was raised in Madison county and lived here several years before moving to Des Moines in 1942 and then to Red Oak in 1948.

On March 27, 1948 he married Lois Carpenter in Des Moines, who survives him.

Mr. Grasty was an auto mechanic and sanitation worker by occupation.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Irene Smith of Des Moines, Doris Orr of Ada, Oklahoma, and Ginger Kling of Red Oak; three brothers, Everett of Des Moines, Ivan of Lodi, California and Wallace of Winterset; 10 granddaughters, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Byron Paxton officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.

Forest Grasty

Services for Forest Grasty, 86, 411 Fourth Ave., retired auto mechanic and sanitation worker, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell Funeral Home with the Rev. Byron Paxton officiating and burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

He was pronounced dead at home when the rescue unit arrived after a 7:20 p.m. call.

The son of Mrs. And Mrs. William Grasty he was born Dec. 9, 1895, in Madison County and lived in that county a number of years. From 1942 to 1948 he was a Des Moines resident and then moved to Red Oak.

He was married in 1948 to Lois Carpenter, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Irene Smith of Des Moines, Doris Orr of Ada, Okla., and Ginger Kling of Red Oak; 10 grandchildren, 25, great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Everett of Des Moines, Wallace of Winterset and Ivan of Lodi, Calif.

Memorials have been suggested to American Cancer Society.

Coordinator's note: The family surname was originally Graspy. Some of the children of William & Judy Graspy, including Forest, decided to change their name to Grasty.
