FRANK CALLAHAN Dies Sunday At Hospital

The death of Frank Callahan, well-known Union township farmer, occurred at the Winterset hospital Sunday after an illness of about two weeks. He was 60 years of age. Death was caused by a bronchial and heart ailment.

Mr. Callahan was born in Winterset on March 7, 1878. With the exception of five years spent abroad his entire life was lived in Madison county. He attended the Winterset public schools, and in 1897 moved to his parents' farm in Union township, where he became one of the county's most prosperous farmers.

He is survived by a brother, Thomas Callahan of Harve, Mont., and three sisters, Mrs. Kate Ryan of Chicago and Mayme and Nellie Callahan at home.

Funeral services were held from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home this morning (Wednesday) conducted by the Rev. William Hahessy of St. Joseph's Catholic church. Burial was made in St. Patrick's cemetery in Lee township.

FRANK CALLAHAN DIES IN HOSPITAL

Frank Callahan, 60 years of age, died Sunday morning in the Winterset hospital following an illness of short duration. Mr. Callahan was taken ill about ten days before his death and was taken to the hospital Saturday evening when he became more serious.

Mr. Callahan was born in Winterset March 7, 1878 and was the third eldest child of the late Patrick and Katherine Flynn Callahan. With the exception of five years spent in traveling in foreign countries he made his home in Winterset. The attended the public schools, and in 1897 he moved to his parents farm in Union township where he since resided.

He was an influential farmer and it was due to his hard work and management that the original eighty acres of this farm was increased to the four hundred acres that it now is. During his early life as a farmer he specialized in raising fancy stock and at different times made some of the largest and finest shipment of hogs and cattle in Madison county.

He is survived by a brother, Thomas of Harve, Montana; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Ryan Chicago and Mame and Nellie at home. Two brothers, Joseph and John preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Wednesday morning at nine o’clock. Burial was made in St. Patrick’s cemetery in Lee township.
