Vernon Goodwin, Winterset

Vernon Goodwin, 80, died April 5, 2000, of progressive supranuclear palsy (RSP) at Winterset Care Center North.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Patterson with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating. Burial was at Montpelier Cemetery near Patterson.

Vernon Goodwin was born Feb. 7, 1920, in Stanberry, Mo., to George and Fannie May (Jelinek) Goodwin. He married Hazel Salsbury on June 28, 1941 in Albany, Mo. Vernon farmed in Madison County most of his life until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of Winterset; two daughters, Carol Spera (husband John) of Winterset and Debbie Menke (husband Richard) of Long Grove; three sisters, Evelyn Driscoll of Afton, Fern Leeper of Winterset and Deleath Raymond (husband Harold) of Des Moines; two brothers, Fred Goodwin (wife Helen) of Winterset and Lawson Goodwin of Parkersburg; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Patterson.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset.
