Wednesday, October 11, 1989Robert M. Hollen, DVM, 71, of Creston died Tuesday, Oct. 3, of a heart attack while on vacation in Taos, N.M.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Creston. The Rev. Lynn Williams officiated the service with burial in Graceland Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his name.
Mr. Hollen was born May 10, 1918, in Winterset to Norman E. and Laura (Travis) Hollen. He married Helen Fils Aug. 11, 1946, in Creston.
He graduated from Winterset High School, attended Iowa Wesleyan and graduated from Iowa State University in 1944. He came to Creston as a federal veterinarian for southwest Iowa. He served in Old Mexico from 1947 to 1949 as a federal veterinarian. After returning from Old Mexico he set up private practice in Orient until his retirement in the late 1970's.
He was baptized in the Methodist Church and transferred to the First Presbyterian Church, Creston. He was a member of Crestmoor Golf Club and Elks Lodge No. 605.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Creston; a son, John (wife Elaine) Hollen of Red Oak; two grandchildren, and two sisters, Margaret Stark of Lawn Dale, Calif., and Marjorie Bishop of Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William T. Hollen.
