Services for Margaret "Dixie" Shinn, 88, Winterset, who died Oct. 3 at the Bethesda Care Center in Winterset where she resided, were held Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Greenfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Vallery and Rev. Bob Epperson officiating.

Mrs. Shinn was born Dec. 27, 1900, the daughter of John and Ida Sampson Ruby in Ragan, Neb. She married Claude Seley in 1927 and he died in 1960. In 1962 she married Harold C. Shinn in Des Moines. He died in 1986.

Mrs. Shinn attended Drake University and Iowa State Teachers College and taught school for many years in different elementary school systems and at the Polk County Juvenile Home for 20 years. She lived in Des Moines for a number of years, moved to Oregon in 1971 and then to Winterset in 1986.

She was a member of the board of Polk County Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce, the Izaak Walton League and the Salvation Army Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Babs Caldwell of Winterset; two step daughters, Evelyn Ridout of Lorimor, and Mary Ann Brown of Greenfield; four stepsons, Keith Shinn of Arkansas, Robert of California, Tom Shinn of Mingo and Ted Shinn of Ames; a grandson; 20 step grandchildren, 36 step great-grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; a sister, Marie Raper of Arizona; and a brother, John Ruby of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, four sisters, and three brothers.
