Maria (Koelle) Tiernan, 92, of San Diego, Calif., died Monday, March 27, 2006, in San Diego.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at St. Patrick’s Irish Settlement Church near Cumming. A gathering with family will be held from 5–7 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be directed in her name to a favorite charity of your choice.
Maria Gertrude Koelle was born Nov. 20, 1913, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Costa) Koelle. Her marriage to James Tiernan took place on July 25, 1942. Maria supported Jim throughout his career in the Army as they moved several times to such places as Japan, Germany and Holland.
She is survived by her husband, James Tiernan of San Diego, Calif.; a nephew, Robert J. Koelle of Davenport; a niece, Carol Koelle of Davenport; and a sister-in-law, Margaret (Mrs. John) Tiernan of Winterset.
