E. Louis Givan, Casey

E. Louis Givan, 63, of Casey, died of cancer April 2, 1995 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services are today, April 5 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. The Rev. John Shaull will officiate the services and burial will be at the Winterset Cemetery with military graveside services.

He was born in Macksburg on Nov. 17, 1931 to LLoyd and Rose (Sawyer) Givan. He married Joyce Spencer on Jan. 2, 1951 in Winterset. He later married Doris Stoud on March 24, 1984 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He had been a construction superintendent at C. L. Carroll Co., Inc. He had lived in Winterset until moving to Casey five years ago. He was a member of the IOOF (Oddfellows) Lodge and had served in the Navy during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Givan; two brothers; one sister; and one grandson.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Doris Givan of Casey; three sons, Mike Givan and wife Vicky of Winterset, Mark Givan and wife Diane of Drain, Ore., and Jim Givan and wife Nina of Mason City; two daughters Karen Brittain and husband Austin of Winterset and Lynn Parrish and husband David of Ft. Morgan, Colo.; two stepsons, Alan Bichel and Wife Roseann of Conroy and Jeffrey Bichel and wife Denise of Bolton, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Rhonda Callison and husband Dan of Madrid; two brothers, Lyle Givan of Denver and David Givan of Colo.; one sister, Rosalie Haymond of Winterset; 22 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

E. Louis Givan, 63, of Casey died of cancer Sunday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Winterset, and burial will be in Winterset Cemetery.

Mr. Givan was born in Macksburg and moved to Casey five years ago. He was superintendent of C. L. Carroll Co. Inc. construction business, a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of Odd Fellows Lodge.

Among survivors are his wife, Doris; three sons, Mike of Winterset, Mark of Drain, Ore., and Jim of Mason City; two stepsons, Alan Bichel of Conroy and Jeffrey Bichel of Bolton, Mo.; tow daughters, Karen Brittain of Winterset and Lynn Parish of Fort Morgan, Colo.; as stepdaughter, Rhonda Callison of Madrid; two brothers, Lyle and David, both of Colorado; a sister, Rosalie Haymond of Winterset; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today at the church, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Collins Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
