Marvin Gilleland, Ellston

Marvin D. "Goose" Gilleland, 71, of Ellston died Nov. 15, 2003, at Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr. Funeral services were held at Grandview Park Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial was at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.

Goose Gilleland was born in Winterset to Cresslie and Helen (Nellis) Gilleland. He was a 1951 graduate of Winterset High School. He also had resided in Des Moines and Prairie City before moving to Ellston 14 years ago. Goose had been a tire builder for Pirelli-Armstrong for 35 years, and for many years, he and his wife ran the Marv and Gin Lemonade Stand at the Iowa State Fair. He also was a veteran of the United States Navy Reserve.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Martin Dean and Marvin Eugene Gilleland; a grandson, Justin Gilleland; and a sister, Ruby Hircock.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Gilleland of Ellston; a son, Lynn Gilleland of Des Moines; two daughters, Pam Scheel of Des Moines and Heidi Waugh of Benton; two step-sons, Jon Wagner of Savannah, Ga., and Pat Foley of Des Moines; three brothers, Larry Gilleland of Lacona, Norman Gilleland of Washington State and Duane Gilleland of Winterset; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ringgold County Hospital.
