Winterset Madisonian - November 22, 1978

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. from the First United Presbyterian Church of Winterset for Edith M. Tyer, 89, who died Friday, Nov. 17, 1978, at Memorial Hospital.

She was born October 15, 1889, in Dallas County, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick William and Ida Mae Hoyt Tyer. Miss Tyer retired in 1954 from schoolteaching. She taught in Boone, Iowa for 20 years and was a resident of Winterset at the time of her death.

She was affiliated with the First United Presbyterian Church and a member of the U.P.W., W.C.T.U., held life membership in the Iowa State Education Association, the National Retired Teachers Association and the Winterset Art Center.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ray Leach and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Ray, Burt, Ed and Vern Tyer and a sister, Mrs. Mabel Kesting.

Officiating at Monday's funeral was Rev. Alan Parker. Burial was made at the Fairview Cemetery.
