Winterset Madisonian - January 25, 1956

Mrs. Hiram P. Tuel, a well known Winterset resident for many years, died at Memorial hospital in Winterset last Friday, Jan. 20, at the age of 80 years.

Mrs. Tuel was the former Harriett May Keast, and was born at DeKalb, Ill., on May 11, 1876. She was married in 1903 to Arthur Charles Bartlett. They came to Madison county about 40 years ago, and Mr. Bartlett engaged in the grocery business here for some time.

Her parents were Isaac and Elizabeth Veal Keast, both of whom were natives of Devonshire, England.

Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett were parents of two daughters, Della May and Ardyth Elizabeth. The husband and father died in 1938.

She was married a second time in 1945 to Hiram P. Tuel, who survives her. She leaves the two daughters, Mrs. Phillip Powers of Winterset and Mrs. Howard K. Barrett of Decatur, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Nellie Watson, of Hollywood, California.

Mrs. Tuel was a member of the Rebekah lodge and the Methodist church.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Richards funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
