FRED RHOADS OF WINTERSET DIES

Native of Kansas, Lived in Madison County Most of Life

Fred Rhoads of Winterset, long-time resident of Madison county, died Sunday, May 26, at a nursing home here. He was 81 years of age.

Mr. Rhoads was a son of Samuel S. and Eliza Read Rhoads. He was born Oct. 19, 1881, in Kansas, but had lived most of his life in this county. He was engaged in farming and worked as a fence builder during his active years.

Surviving are three brothers, Nelson Rhoads of Van Wert, and Ross and Earl Rhoads of Winterset; and two sisters, Mrs. Susie Sage of Winterset and Mrs. Alberta Betterton of Knoxville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Robert A. Owens, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
