ELBERT GERARD DIES AT 89 YEARS

Retired Railroad Man Had Lived In This County Since 1948

Elbert E. Gerard, a resident of this community since 1948, died Friday, Sept. 29, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 89 years of age.

Mr. Gerard was a native of Nebraska, where he was born at Weeping Water on Nov. 20, 1877. He came to Madison county in 1948 from Silvis, Ill.

He was a retired railroad worker and a member of the Methodist church.

He was married at Corning on Nov. 12, 1943 to Grace Douglas, who survives him. He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Lois Clemens of Seattle, Wash.; a son, Clinton L. Gerard of San Carlos, Calif.; three step-children, Kenneth Douglas of Wenatchie, Wash., Mrs. Lela Allison of Winterset and Mrs. Marjorie Stephey of Woodstock, Ill.; six step-grandchildren; a step-great grandchild; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Villa Jamison of Weeping Water, Nebr. and Mrs. E. A. McElroy of Phoenix, Ariz.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home here, conducted by the Rev. E. K. Burham, pastor of the First Methodist church of Winterset. Burial was made in the cemetery at Diller, Nebr.
