ELIZABETH GATES DIED SATURDAY

Death Occurs at Nursing Home Here at Age of 89 Years

Mrs. Elizabeth Gates of Winterset died here Saturday, Nov. 26 at the Shoemaker Nursing home, where she had been a patient for several years. She was 89 years of age.

Mrs. Gates was the former Elizabeth Barnett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Barnett. She was born April 18, 1860 at Swedona, Ill. As a young girl she moved to a farm near Macksburg.

She was married to John Gates in 1879. They were the parents of two children, Mrs. Addie Helm who preceded her in death and Mrs. Jewel Bartlet of near Macksburg.

In 1919, Mr. and Mrs. Gates retired and moved into Winterset. Mr. Gates died in 1946.

She was a long-time member of the Oak Evangelical church. After moving to Winterset, her membership was placed with the Church of Christ here.

In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Bartlet, she leaves a granddaughter and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday from Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. R. E. Langholz of St. Paul's Lutheran church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
