Mrs. Gertrude C. Powell, well-known Scott township resident most of her life, died Friday, Oct. 7 at Memorial hospital. She was 70 years of age.

Mrs. Powell was the mother of Edward Powell, Madison county deputy sheriff.

She was born in Douglas township, May 13, 1896, a daughter of Edward B. and Clementina Keller. She attended school in Chicago, and with the exception of those years, and three years in Virginia, her life-time was spent in Madison county.

She was married to Bertsel L. Powell at Winterset on April 6, 1921. His death occurred in 1928.

She was a member of the Methodist church.

In addition to her son, she is survived by three grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Kellogg of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Everett K. Burham, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
