Carl Haymond Dies at Age 81

Carl Haymond , a well-known Webster Township farmer for most of his life, died last Thursday, December 26, at the Madison Manor South Nursing Home in Winterset. He was 81 years of age.

Mr. Haymond was born in Webster Township on April 11, 1893, the son of Samuel and Amelia Farquhar Haymond. He was married to Esther Huffman at Winterset on February 23, 1913.

A lifetime resident of Madison County, Mr. Haymond devoted his active years to farming in Webster Township.

Mr. Haymond was affiliated with the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, and was a member of I.O.O.F. Grand river Lodge No. 406 at Macksburg for 60 years. He was a former director the M and W Farm service Company, was a former township trustee, and was a member of the AAA farm program during the late 1930s. He worked for the Iowa State Fair Safety Department for about 20 years.

Survivors include three sons, Chester, Rex and Merle Haymond, all of rural Winterset. Other survivors include nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Earl Hayumond of Rossland, British Columbia, Canada; and a sister, Mrs. Opal Cline of Springfield, Illinois.

Mr. Haymond was preceded in death by his wife, Esther, in February of 1973, as well as by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 30, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, with the Rev. Paul Boomfield officiating. Burial, with graveside services by I.O.O.F. Grand River Lodge No 406, was in the Winterset Cemetery.
